Assessments (DUI)

Assessments (DUI)

A substance abuse assessment, also referred to as an alcohol assessment, involves speaking with a counselor and providing a brief history of your use of alcohol and other intoxicating substances. Several other areas of your life are also examined. The job of the clinician is to work collaboratively with you to identify/label your relationship with alcohol/drugs while also exploring how other life factors may be influencing that relationship. The assessment concludes with the clinician making a clinical diagnosis along with any/all treatment recommendations (education and/or counseling). Driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs is extremely dangerous to you and to society-at-large. The Court is attempting to determine how likely you are to re-engage in this behavior going forward.

Pursuant to MCL 257.625b(5), Michigan law requires that anyone being convicted of operating while under the influence of an intoxicating substance (e.g., drunk driving) complete a substance abuse assessment prior to sentencing.

GTCS assessments are conducted in a comfortable and discrete environment using a one-on-one structured interview format by one of our qualified treatment specialists.
